Training Overview

Screen & Intervene: Addressing Food Insecurity Among Older Adults” is a course designed for health care providers who work with adults ages 50 and over. The course also is useful for those interested in learning more about food insecurity and how to address this serious health issue facing millions of older Americans.

The course is offered free of charge. The full course takes an hour but does not have to be completed in one seating. Participants can receive 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit of Continuing Medical Education (CME) for MDs and DOs as well as other professional groups. A certificate of completion is also available.

Screen & Intervene: Addressing Food Insecurity Among Older Adults educates healthcare providers in identifying and addressing food insecurity among older adults, defined here as age 50 and older. The content is divided into five modules and it is recommended that the modules be taken in order. The complete program covers:

  • The definition, prevalence, and associated risk factors of food insecurity among older adults;
  • The health and nutrition consequences of food insecurity;
  • How to screen for food insecurity among older adults;
  • How to intervene when individuals screen positive for food insecurity;
  • And, special considerations when working with older adults. We recommend you complete the course modules in order.

Each module should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, although you may start and stop as often as you like.
